CORTEZ ROUND UP

Good Afternoon:
As the proud principal of Cortez High School, I am writing to provide you with an update on the second semester, which has gotten off to a fantastic start. We have a lot to be thankful for, and I would like to highlight a few notable achievements:
- Our students have excelled in hours of service and have showcased their dedication to our community. Students have been seen cleaning up Dunlap for the Adopt-A-Street program, performing at the grand opening of the Metro Light Rail, preparing food boxes at Feed My Starving Children program, and reading to elementary students at Alta Vista.
- We are proud to announce our COLTS with CLASS for January: David Perdomo Chourio, Shahad Al Mufti, Gisel Murillo, and Eh Htoo.
In addition to these remarkable accomplishments, we have an exciting month of February ahead, filled with exciting high school experiences:
- Mark your calendars for Parent University on February 22nd from 5-7 at Apollo High School in the cafeteria. Parents are provided information about fentanyl, vaping, social media, and cyber safety from a presenter from the FBI and Rise Up! Glendale.
- Don’t miss out on a home Boys Basketball playoff game scheduled for Friday, February 16th at 7:00 pm. Let’s support our team by wearing white!
I encourage you to visit our school’s website for more detailed calendar information and to stay connected with us on Facebook. Our website is regularly updated with the latest school events and important announcements, while our Facebook page provides real-time stories and happenings. Following us on Facebook is a great way to ensure you are always up-to-date with the exciting events and achievements taking place at our school. Find us at: Facebook Page
Furthermore, we want to remind you about the valuable resources available to support your teen’s academic journey. Our dedicated teachers are ready to assist with specific coursework both before and after school. Additionally, our media center has extended hours every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday until 6:00 pm. to provide additional academic support.
Additionally, we also want to reemphasize the importance of regular attendance for the remainder of this school year. Missing even just two days a month can equate to missing an entire month of valuable instruction over the course of the year. Please keep this in mind when scheduling appointments or vacations.
Lastly, please take note of the following upcoming dates:
- No school on February 19th in observance of Presidents' Day
- End of Quarter 3: March 15
- Spring Break: March 18-22
Thank you for your continued support, and let’s make the second semester a successful and memorable one for our students. If you have any questions or require further information, do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Warm Regards,
Principal Parsons
