CORTEZ HS RECEIVES UNITED BLOOD SERVICES TOP AWARD FOR BLOOD DONATIONS

High School Students Serving the Community

On October 1, 2018, Cortez Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC), on behalf of Cortez High School, accepted the coveted top honor, the platinum award from United Blood Services of Arizona.  The NJROTC unit assumed coordination of campus blood drives last year and since their involvement, the cadets have been instrumental for a significant increase in donor participation.

The Cortez NJROTC Blood Drive Committee received the platinum award for 60% or more participation of the senior class within their school division during the 2017-2018 school year.  Among all the Glendale Union High School District schools who participated in the United Blood Services High School Challenge, Cortez had the highest percentage of donors.

The United Blood Services High School Blood Drive Challenge helps Arizona’s youngest blood donors make an impact within their community by supporting blood donation.  Approximately one in every six blood transfusions comes from a high school blood donor.  This places Cortez High School in an elite group of exceptional volunteers.  Bravo Zulu cadets and many thanks to all the donors!
