November 24, 2009- The website, www.flu.gov, has a new tool on its home page. The self-evaluation tool asks questions about symptoms a person is experiencing to determine whether or not a trip to the doctor might be necessary and the likelihood that a person’s symptoms are caused by the flu.

The website is intended for informational purposes only and is not a substitute for the care of a medical professional.

Also, with the holidays approaching, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recently unveiled the 2009 Travelers’ Heath Campaign. This includes posters that continue to encourage typical prevention methods—washing hands, covering coughs and sneezes with tissue or sleeve, and getting a flu vaccine when available. In addition, it also emphasizes the importance of traveling only when in good health to keep from spreading viruses to family, friends, and other travelers.
