     Dan Vass has been at Cortez since 2004, where he currently serves as the Senior Naval Science Instructor for the Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) program.
 
     In 2003, Vass retired from the U.S. Navy with 21 years active duty service.  Specializing in Signals Intelligence and Electronic Warfare operations, he attended Russian language training at the Defense Language Institute-Foreign Language Center (DLI-FLC) in Monterey, California and graduated with honors from the 47-week course. During his career he accrued over 2,100 operational flight hours aboard EP-3E ORION land-based aircraft and aboard EA-3B SKYWARRIOR carrier-based jets. In 1998 he completed qualifications as a Surface Warfare Officer while serving as a Division Officer aboard the guided-missile cruiser USS PORT ROYAL (CG-73).  From 1999 to 2001, he served within the Defense Attache System as the Operations Officer at the United States Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark.  
 
     His last assignment on active duty was at the Center for Cryptology, Pensacola, Florida as an Instructor and Course Manager. Vass completed 3rd-year Slavic/Russian language studies at the George Washington University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science from Excelsior College
