Miliary Officers Career DayOn Tuesday, November 25th, three cadets from the Cortez Navy JROTC Unit were invited to participate in the Annual Military Officer Career Day sponsored by the Association of the United States Army which was held at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale.  Cadet Master Chief Petty Officer Willie Ward, Cadet Lieutenant Junior Grade Jordan Astemborski and Cadet Lieutenant Junior Grade Brennan Hake (seen below) were afforded the opportunity to meet with various military based colleges throughout the United States that offer scholarships to young men and women that are interested in becoming officers in all branches of the military.  After gathering information about the many college programs around the country, the cadets were provided with a turkey dinner followed by a brief entertainment program to include a song by a John Wayne impersonator, also pictured.  Each area school was sponsored by members of the AUSA and this year the Cortez Cadets were sponsored by one of the original Cortez Colts, Mr. Dan Germond of the Glendale Chapter of the Rotary Club, who graduated from Cortez High School as part of the second ever graduating class in 1963.  Mr. Germond’s father, Andy,  served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and his ties with Cortez High School provided a unique opportunity for the Cadets to continue the Cortez legacy of service to our great nation.
